Eager to be Judged?

Close-up of a wooden judge's gavel.

You want to be famous? You want to be heard? You want to go first? You want VIP status?

BUT, are you eager to be judged? Are you eager to go public with the ideas inside your head?

Being heard invites judgment, and judgment is often avoided at all costs. Once you accept that judgment is an inevitable part of your work reaching people, you free yourself to go forth and contribute to the pile of work that is so lucky to be judged. Judgment, like comparison, is not inherently bad. They are just lenses with which to make sense of our experiences. When you put your work out into the world, you have the opportunity to impact someone else’s experience, and this opportunity deserves to be judged, critiqued, and evaluated.

We should all be so lucky to be judged. Therefore, since you desire to be heard, picked, awarded, and celebrated, ask yourself if you are not just willing but EAGER to be judged. If so, carry on. If not, you are better off letting go of your desire to lead and be a VIP. Remember, being eager means trusting yourself enough to show up to do the work and SHIP it, even before you are “ready.”
