Why do you sometimes IMMEDIATELY take action and other times you hesitate?
The answer is CONFIDENCE. Put simply, confidence is the BELIEF you can perform a desired behavior. The stronger this belief is the more likely you will prioritize action over inaction.
It is important to note that confidence is a byproduct of your beliefs (thoughts), not your feelings. Nonetheless, your beliefs do often affect how you feel. For instance, you may feel anxious, apprehensive, and scared because of a lack of confidence. This distinction between thoughts and feelings is very important because if we only prioritize and focus on our feelings in the short term we will undermine our ability to grow our confidence.
There is a common order of operations flaw that many of us fall prey to: “Once I become more confident, then I will take action.” However, the cultivation of confidence requires you to ACT AS IF you already have confidence…

“You are more likely to act yourself into feeling than feel yourself into action”

Which comes first… Chicken or the egg?
- Inspiration follows action… You don’t wait to be inspired to write, you write to BECOME inspired
- Passion and motivation follow the momentum of your purpose driven efforts
Passion comes after you put in the hard work to become excellent at something valuable, not before. In other words, what you do for a living is much less important than how you do it

Passion is the prize, but you have to invest first

EQUIPPED with this knowledge, we all have the opportunity to harness the power of self-talk to quiet the inner critic and embrace leaning into discomfort to EARN becoming more comfortable.
I recommend that you begin bringing more self-awareness to the situations in which you hesitate…. And, then, self-regulate by performing a “SHOULD DETOX”
I SHOULD have volunteered to share my ideas at the meeting….
I COULD have volunteered to share my ideas at the meeting…
I CAN share my feelings at the meeting BECAUSE….
I have valuable insights
I want to be part of the decision making process
There is an opportunity for me to LEARN something
Getting feedback on my ideas will help me to grow
Confidence will be gained if I do…. 😉
