Leadership

What’s the point?

Neon question mark sign in dark, graffiti-covered tunnel.

When an unfavorable outcome seems inevitable, the knee-jerk reaction is “what’s the point?” Common justifications are “my vote won’t make a difference,” “that’s just the way it is,” “this is how the game is played,” and “everyone does it this way.”

UNTIL THEY DON’T!

The point is…

That there is life beyond this set of circumstances.

There is an infinite amount of life beyond this point in time whether we are here to see it or not.

There is a ripple effect.

And while it may not seem like your actions have much sway over what is about to occur, your actions could very well influence the possibilities in a distant future. This is the infinite game perspective. This mental ability of prospection is what distinguishes our humanity from other species.

Therefore, the point is

We evolved to see points of view that extend beyond the now and look to the vision of a more ideal future.

Those that lead CHOOSE to see that the point is to stake a claim to, and behave in accordance with, a higher context of principles and values that transcend what may be fated for the near future.

Leadership is holding a higher context when the majority is fixated only on how to protect their own identity by handling what’s symptomatically urgent, as opposed to prioritizing what is systemically important.
